Final Posters

Week 6

These are my final printed posters mounted on to a piece of card, with a cover sheet. I am pretty happy with the end result result although my posters were cut slightly too long which means they hang off the cardboard. I think they look quite eye catching and I am happy with the use of scale to create heirachy. They have turned out a lot different to what I originally planned and wanted, but overall I am pleased with how they turned out.

Week 6

I've added my posters to the poster wall given in Mondays class. my 'money is power' poster stands out quite significantly amongst the others which is good to see. The colours and textures used, help this a lot. The pig poster also stands out but not quite as much, maybe because of the background. Overall in both posters, the scale and solid shapes definitely attract the eye.

After Class Touch Ups

Week 6

I've found a handwritten looking text for the fact as I thought it worked better with the rest of the poster. I've also made it bigger and bolder.  I've tried a few more layouts with text to see which worked best. I've also touched up small details to make my posters look more complete.

I want to print my posters out tomorrow so I will look to see if there are any more touch ups needed, and make sure everything sis in order to print my final posters.

Final Class Critique

Week 6

I printed these two posters out as i thought they were the strongest so far and wanted to receive feedback on these to ensure I could make the right decisions for final touch ups. 

It was said my fact looked a bit odd up the top pushed into the corner. The rule is also quite unecessary. I will work on placements for this, maybe moving the slightly away from the each or moving them down the bottom. They also need to be bolder. and slightly bigger. The main text for the pig poster should be closer to the small pig, I will keep playing around, keeping my other text layouts in mind. Theres also final detailed touch up that need to be done, like making lines cleaner and neatening everything up.

Week 5 - Preparation for Week 6

For this poster I have changed the background to something more rough, which creates more contrast between the background and the pigs. It also feels less flat as opposed to solid black. I have lightened the pig slightly to make it pop more off the page and moved the fact back up the top as it felt too cluttered. This poster is coming together and is at the final refinement stage. 

 I have been playing around more with the layout of my text as I'm still not quite sure whats working the best. I tried to create more flow, but still legible layouts. I like this text being towards the bottom more as this relates more to the idea of the pig that had none. It also creates more heirachy and visual flow. I will see what everyone thinks in class tomorrow as I still need to figure this one out.

Further improvements - Poster 1

Week 5- Preparing for Week 6

I have been working a lot on this poster over the past few days and have made it a lot more refined. I took a better photo of a hand which I then made look more sketchy and rough on photoshop. I also drew a pencil version which I overlayed on top of the photo on photoshop to create a drawn effect. i did the same thing with the sleeve cuff and the small figure at the bottom. I have redone the background on an A3 page in order to make it a bigger file to endure it wont be pixilated. I've made the text the same colour and kept it going following the angle of the hand as I thought this worked well. I think this poster has improved a lot and it definitely feels like everything works together.

I tested out a few different sizes and placements of the running figure to see if anything worked better. I still prefer the original position as this creates tension with the finger about to flick.

Next steps for Refining

Week 5

In class I received more feedback to help me in my refinement stages.

 The pig poster is almost at its final tweaking stage, although I need to play around more with the layout of text. I was told the handwritten text worked well and the general idea of the poster is there. I need to experiment more with the background colour, to create contrast between that and the pigs. To help this I need to make the main pig slightly lighter and pinker, as at the moment it doesn't stand out quite enough.

My money is power poster needs more work than the first. I need to alter minor things like the colour of the text and the slightly pixelated background, but theres a bit that needs to be changed about the hand. I need to make the hand fit in more with the painterly feel, maybe by paining or drawing the hand, or just adding some shadow to make it more 3D. I then need to make the text flow more with the hand. 

It was brought up that the angle of the hand looked a bit odd, so I opened a previous design with a different angle, which seemed to work better. I'll incorporate this into my design. I also need to make the figure look as if its running away.

Beginning to Refine

Week 5 

After Mondays Interim presentation I have taken on board the feedback i've received and begun touching up my posters. I have also put my posters on a grid so I can more efficiently put them together.

I have changed the bracelet on the wrist to a sleeve cuff which s a less literal way of displaying the hand as the 'rich'. I wanted to see what this design looked like with the actual photo of the hand I had taken. I think this works quite well as it feels more realistic which can be more relatable and close to home. It feels more like a human, which makes it feel more intimidating and less comedic. Although it feels odd having an actual photo mixed with vectors. I have also been playing around with text again, figuring out which placements work best and maybe what style of text I want.

I have incorporated an element of handwritten text into this poster as after my feedback I realised it could look better. I've been playing around with different text layouts, moving the fact to the bottom, and giving room for this by moving the pig up. I still need to refine this area a bit more. I've taken the necklace away as it was said i don't necessarily need it. Although I have brought it back in one and changed the colour to green as this relates more to money. I have also tried to create more contrast between the pigs by making the colours more obvious

Feedback from Interim Presentation 2

Week 5 - Interim presentation

For this presentation we had to print our posters out at A2 and pin them up on the wall. After looking at everyones posters I am starting to get an idea for which ideas are working better than others, and how people have managed to portray their idea in a strong way. I like the scale on my posters and think it is really effective when seeing them at full size. I might make the tag line slightly bigger and play with texture a bit more.

We then split off into groups to critique each others posters and I received some really helpful feedback and tips on how to improve my posters. Both posters clearly illustrated my concept in a different way because of the imagery and and text used. It was suggested I use different imagery to represent the hand as rich, something instead of the bracelet. I was aware the bracelet was quite weak so it was very helpful to get suggestions for this. I could use a shirt cuff, and make it very crisp and clean. I could also add some money popping out of the cuff to solidify the idea of the hand being rich and powerful, although I might not need to go that literal. I was told I might not need the necklace on the pig so I might experiment some more with this. I also need more contrast in colours between the pigs and also in general across my posters. Experimenting more with written or painted text would be beneficial for the pig poster, also adding colour to the text in someway could help emphasise it. One of the tutors helped me realise I need to work on the layout for my pig poster as the tagline feels as of its not related to the rest of the poster. I need to add in more black down the bottom, maybe by moving the pig up, in order to move my tagline down.

I will continue to work on these posters taking the feedback on board for Thursdays class.

Preparing for Interim Presentation 2

Week 4 - Preparation for Week 5

I have been experimenting with a few techniques in order to work out what works best for my two concepts. I've looked at using paint to give my posters more texture and interest. Using paint worked better for some things than others. In the background using paint improves the concept and doesn't make it feel as flat. I found it didn't work so well painting the pig because it doesn't look as striking. Although I could work on this technique to achieve that.

I experimented a lot with text for my 'money is power' poster, playing around with paint and rough textures. I also played around with different angles, and the use of photos and vectors, which I might continue to do, as there might be a more interesting way to display this idea. 

I've begun adding in a fact which helps to tie the whole concept of each poster together. I need to start working with a grid in order organise my posters effeciently.

After the Interim presentation tomorrow, I hope to have a clearer understanding of what is working and what isn't. Printing full size A2 will also help me see what needs changing. I will then continue to experiment until I find something that works best.

Exploring Artist Models - Use of the Hand

Week 4

I have been looking at how other artists use a hand as dominance in their work. I got a couple books out from the Massey library and looked up artists that that caught my eye. All of these examples show a different perspective and style of using a hand. They also use Scale a lot which I think will really improve my poster These posters are helpful in developing my concept and thinking of different ways I could use a hand.
